The United States Declaration of Independence · 4 July 1776

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal”

An American founding text, and true everywhere. The Planetary Council's position: there is one race, the human race. Differences in how people look are adaptations to where their ancestors lived, like skin colour to sunlight.

Declaration of Independence, National Archives · Skin colour and sunlight

This page is not neutral. Its agenda: educating people who say “it says in the book”. It was inspired by Israel's war on Gaza, which is why it is mostly about Israel and Palestine.

The 7 October 2023 attack was an atrocity: about 1,200 people killed in Israel, most of them civilians, and 251 taken hostage. Hamas's stated objective was to hit military sites and capture soldiers to exchange for Palestinian prisoners. More than 1,000 days later, Gaza's Ministry of Health reports 74,564 Palestinians killed.

People are people. Yet again and again someone says: “it says in the book”, “it is not murder, it is a rightful killing”. Which book, translated by whom? That is intellectual gymnastics. This page keeps it simple. Go to the part for Israel.

Three questions

  1. Maimonides said to leave one side open. Do the people in Gaza who want to escape have a real way out?
  2. God stopped the angels from singing. When the other side's children die, is anyone celebrating?
  3. Hillel said it in one line. If this were done to your own family, would you call it justice?

The same rules, for Hamas

Hamas says the Al-Qassam Brigades' fighters didn't target civilians. That is false: at least 800 of the roughly 1,200 dead were civilians, and a UN Commission of Inquiry found deliberate killing, hostage-taking and sexual violence. The same commission found Israel committed war crimes in Gaza. A cause can be just and a method can still be a crime.

The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant. A UN Commission of Inquiry concluded in September 2025 that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza; Israel rejects this, and the world court has not yet ruled. 157 of 193 United Nations members now recognise Palestine. Common sense

“It says in the book”

  1. Which book, translated by whom? People have many books, and each can be quoted to justify anything. Words on a page do not make anyone entitled to kill.
  2. Before people kill in large numbers, they stop calling the other side people: enemy, infidel, savage, terrorist, collateral, human animals.
  3. So ask one question: would you accept the same thing if it were done to your own family?

The evidence: 9 October 2023

Defence minister Yoav Gallant: We are imposing a complete siege on the city of Gaza. There will be no electricity, no food, no water, no fuel… We are fighting human animals and we are acting accordingly. This is the translation in the footage; others say the Gaza Strip.

Euronews No Comment on YouTube

Collective punishment is a war crime: No protected person may be punished for an offence he or she has not personally committed (Fourth Geneva Convention, Article 33). The International Criminal Court says Gallant is allegedly responsible for starvation as a method of warfare. There has been no trial, and Israel rejects the court's jurisdiction.
